“Bright Young Things”

A Spring 2020 Fashion Forecast

In January - May 2019, I took a course in “Fashion Forecasting” at the City College of San Francisco. Why? I’d always been fascinated with current and historical fashion as a reflection of cultural sentiment and wanted to understand how fashion predictions were made.

For my capstone project, I was challenged to create a Spring 2020 Forecast, based on evidence I saw in the world around us about upcoming trends.

While I was taking the course, it was Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2020 in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. I focused on these shows, rigorously watching and taking notes on 15+ end-to-end runway shows that were available online. I plastered my apartment with printed images from each show, clustering and isolating trends in color, fabric, silhouettes, and more. Finally, I created a physical and digital moodboard of my work.

Below is a small preview of my Spring 2020 forecast.
